Born in upstate New York, Curtis had an early interest in music while growing up. The eldest of seven children raised in a heavy church environment, he displayed an liking for art and music. Thanks to a maternal grandmother who read comic books, Curtis soon gravitated to drawing cartoons of his friends. Immersed in a creative universe of his own, he voraciously collected and read all the comics he could get his hands on. His uncle played piano for the church, and following that example, Curtis began plunking out melodies, much to the chagrin of the parishioners. As the years went on, young Curtis started playing trombone and drums, in addition to keyboards. After honing his piano skills on the college coffeehouse circuit and in various funk bands, Curtis developed an interest in the burgeoning punk-new wave scene of the mid-to-late 70s. Organist and vocalist of the Penetrators, Curtis enjoyed local notoriety thanks to a single release,"The Scandalizer". After moving to Seattle in 1984, Curtis established his credibility through assorted musical experiences as both a sideman and a leader both onstage and in the studio. Introduced by friend Derrick Moody to Jeff Simmons, a former bassist with musical iconoclast Frank Zappa, led to other lucrative club gigs. Curtis and Derrick formed a small recording studio, continuing to network and build relationships with the Seattle music community. | DISCOGRAPHY
